Sheikh Zayed Grand Masjid located at Abu dhabi is one of the beautiful attractions in UAE. Grand Mosque is not only a place of worship but also a charm to the eyes with its beautiful structure and architectural excellency. The Mosque is named after the Late His Highness Sheik Zayed – Father of the nation . The iconic structure attract visitors with its stunning architecture including 24 carat gold gilded chandeliers with a mix of Arab culture.
History
Grand mosque was constructed between years 1996 and 2007. It was a dream coming true for the late visionary ruler of the country, HH Sheikh Zayed. The existence of the graveyard of the father of the nation, in the vicinity of the Grand Mosque adds significant emotional and symbolic meaning to the location. Mosque is of spiritual and architectural significance as a majestic marvel and timeless monument.
Design
Eye catching architecture includes the water mirrors & columns , Marble floors and Beautiful minarets . It also has worlds largest and beautiful carpets from Iran.The mind blowing chandeliers and the exceptional shadow lighting will provide delicious treatment for eyes from inside and outside the compound.The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is well recognized by its pure color, as it is clad with SIVEC marble from Greece. Every artistic feature and elements of the design was careful considered and fits into the overall vision of the Masjid.
Plan a visit ?
Entry is not restricted for any religion. General visiting hours to the mosque are from 9 am and 10 pm (Saturday through Thursday). Its closed during Friday mornings.
There is a checkpoint at the entrance to the mosque for security checks and instructions. Women has to cover the body in a decent manner or wear Abaya provided at the check point. Food items are not allowed inside. Its not allowed to show any kind of personal intimacy once you entered the mosque to keep up with the ambiance of mosque. Masjid premise witness a huge iftar during the month of ramadan, which serves thousands of vistors with iftar food to break fast.
